Hello Sher. Yes, finding a group that matches your style can be very difficult. I’ll touch on that in my next post in the series. I am so lucky with my group, and we’ve lasted about 6 years so far. What you describe is a very typical format according to the many writers I’ve spoken to.

Maybe a mistake. They tore my book to shreds. But I was rewriting while waiting for other children’s authors to reply to my ad in the Florida SCBWI website. Finally got them after almost a year of waiting, and now we have 5. It can take a lot of work to find the “write” group. It’s easier if you make your own. We send 10 pages to markup before the meeting and each person gets 5 minutes to discuss the good and bad of another’s pages. Then the person who got critiqued gets 5 minutes for questions/comments. No time wasted reading aloud unless someone forgot to send pages before the meeting. If they didn’t send, we discuss their story ideas and questions instead. Works great in a 2 hour meeting slot.
